Africa??? … Yes, really, Africa, my parents named me Africa, it’s on my birth certificate, can you believe it!??  … and yes, my middle name is Nicole…

I remember sitting in my room at an early age sticking small wads of paper in the corner of a cassette tape so I could record my favorite songs off the radio. I remember walking around with a purple foam walk-man all the time. Listening to SWV, Mariah Carey, John P. Kee, The Winans, and Stevie Wonder. Music has always been with me, around me, in me… music is me.

I am a 28 year old aspiring songwriter/singer based in North Carolina. My favorite genre is contemporary gospel. I love me some Jesus and He loves me. God is too good and I love to love on Him through my music, through my singing, through my life, and most importantly through my worship. It’s who I am. I also love real R&B, some pop, some alternative, some country, some classics, and of course oldies and all those combined along with life experiences are my inspiration for my writing.

I have finally realized that things I have gone through good and bad have shaped me and are shaping me. You have to go through some things to get TO some things, can I get an AMEN!?!? You have to cry some tears to write the song about how it’s going to be alright, not because it sounds good, but because you have lived it, and survived, and then came out a little stronger.

I have been pursuing this as a career for the last couple years and have been immensely blessed in the last few months to be networking with wonderful artists in the industry and some of my goals for the next 6 months to a year are:

-Completed demo

-Sell songs to gospel artist and r&b artist

-Signed as a staff writer for a major label

-Participate in a U.S. music tour with an artist/group as a background vocalist
