Diamonds by Rihanna Gospel Remix by Africa Nicole

CIMG2473

I watched Rihanna perform her new single “Diamonds” on SNL last weekend and loved the vibe of it. Her band was live and I instantly started thinking what if that was a worship song because it was so smooth! Tonight during my prayer & writing session I felt inspired to listen to it again and put my own feelings to it. Continue for the video and lyrics to a gospel version of Diamonds!

It’s My Birthday!!!

bday28

Well, technically was my birthday, since November 12th has passed, but I am celebrating all month long, and maybe the rest of the year! I am so blessed to be alive and be smiling. Life’s not perfect but it sure is worth it. Impossible to formulate my gratitude into words and accurately give thanks to God for grace and peace. When I think where my life was headed this time last year and I see where God has taken me to this point in my life I can’t do anything other than life my hand and give him praise. He is so worthy!!!

I’m still coming down from my BEST WEEKEND EVER, YET cloud but flip the lid to see a few weekend recaps from my b’day and thanks to everyone who called, texted, tweeted, facebooked and just made me feel so special and loved today. I am so thankful and humble, and looking forward to my future!!!

What’s Cookin’ Good Lookin’: Southern Fried Chicken

17 PM

Per a few family members and friends suggestions, here’s a new reoccurring segment on my blog: What’s Cookin’ Good Lookin’!? If you know me you know I love to cook and love to eat. I grew up in the south watching my mom & grandmother cook and as I’ve gotten older I’ve put my own contemporary twist on some southern favs. Now healthy eating is essential. Lots of fruits, veggies and water, minimal processed food, etc but sometimes you need that good ol’ plate of soul food. So today’s quick simple recipe is a twist on classic southern fried chicken. Pop the top to get the SIMPLE recipe and see the finished product pics…

I Don’t Look Like What I’ve Been Through

“If my life had a voice and told you my journey, you wouldn’t believe it and because of HIS grace there’s no way you can see.

And if my scars did not heal and if His love did not shield me you would see that I don’t look like what I used to be…

I don’t look like what I’ve been through…

For everyday I’m alive I thank God I survived. Now there’s a smile where I’ve cried, there’s been such a change in my life.

I can smile now. No longer mad now. Everything’s new now because I went through.

I lift my hands now. I open my mouth now. Victory is here now all because I went through.”

Those lyrics, verbatim are part of my testimony in coming out of this last season, and by God’s grace I had happy tears streaming down my face this morning when I heard this song. I am usually up to date on music, especially gospel but I must have been under a rock with song!! Just heard Deon Kipping’s “I Don’t Look Like (What I’ve Been Through) this morning and it has been on repeat all day. Check out my short cover of the song and then the original.
